SORGHUM SUDANENSE
Forage sorghum is a crop that fully matches the needs of the farmer, providing significant agronomic advantages:
- The sorghum thanks to the presence of strongly cutinized leaves that disperse less water and to the branched root system with good suction capability, is a crop with good resistance to drought.
- It’s suitable to all types of soil, including clayly and bad textured soils (provided that they have sufficient water reserves) and is not fear by Ostrinia nubilalis or Diabrotica spp. attacked soils.
- It’s a crop not exigent from a nutritional standpoint because its well developed root system allows it to access to the nutrients present in different parts of the soil.
- It’swith little investment, it provides forage with excellent nutritional characteristics.
Sorghum sudanense with thin and elastic stem, high tillering tendency, slender stalks, rapid regrowth and early cycle.
AGRONOMIC METHODS
- Sowing rate: for Sorghum sudanense: 25-35 kg/ha;
- Depth of sowing: 1,2-2,0 cm
- Sowing period: from April to July when the soil temperature is at least 16 °C
- Fertilization: without manure, if needed, apply during pre-sowing period 40-60 Kg/ha of P2O5 and 80-100 Kg/ha of nitrogen at sowing time in urea form.
- Cropping: at the beginning of flowering stage, at least 15 cm from the ground, to promote regrowth.
- Mixture adaptation: not suitable for mixture
Srem
SREM is a Sudangrass with surprisingly high productivity. Compared to Piper on three subsequent cuts it is considerably more productive. In fact it produces around 15% of fresh forage more than Piper. It is characterized by:
- Very rapid growth of the plant
- Very high tillering ability
- Excellent regrowth ability
- Good entichement resistance
- Very good drought tolerance
- Use: hay, silage
Piper
PIPER is a forage sorghum suitable for green manure (except on the first vegetative stages), hay or silage; it have:
- Rapid growth of the plant
- High tillering ability
- High regrowth ability
- Good entichement resistance
- Good drought tolerance
- Indicative production: 4 cuts when the hight is at least 120 cm gives 90 ton/ha of green forage
- Use: hay, silage
