It
is the quickest species to germinate and root. A mounth after coming out
it already forms a fairly good turf. It is quite responsive to drought
and summer heat which cause it to wither. Considerable genetic
improvement work has been made on this species and numerous varietiesare
available on the market. They differ for flowering time, growth rate,
leaf size, distance and more.
|
For practical reasons we make a
distinction between two groups:
1st GROUP
PEARLGREEN
- ROMEO (Dark green)
CAPRI - NUMAN
They are slow growth late fine-leaved
prestigious ryegrasses, very persistent and winter hardy.
Seeding rate: 25-40 g/mq.
2nd GROUP
NUI
- BELIDA
They are early medium-leaved
ryegrasses, fairly persistent.
Seeding rate: 35-50 g/mq.

POA PRATENSIS
|

|
|
Together with perennial ryegrass and red fescue it is an
essential component in most turf mixtures. It is capable of forming an
extremely dense and compact turf, thanks to its creeping characteristic:
it is capable of forming new plants from its horizontally expanding
roots. Watering requirements are the same as perennial ryegrass. It
germinates quite slowly, therefore in mixtures it is the last component
to emerge. When sown as a single species it must be sown quite near the
surface, covering the seed with only 1-2 mm of soil. This can be
obtained by sowing broadcast followed by packing down. It generally has
larger leaves than red fescue.

EVORA
EUROPA
BLUE STAR
BARON
|
|
|
FESTUCA
RUBRA
|

This is an ideal turf grass, in fact
it is medium green and very finely-leaved.
|
It is divided into three botanical
subspecies:
CHEWINGS FESCUE
(FESTUCA RUBRA FALLAX)
CASANOVA - SIMONE
It is the most suitable for prestigious lawns, it is not creeping, it
grows slowly and does not emerge too quickly.
Seeding rate:
20-30 g/mq.
CREEPING RED FESCUE
(FESTUCA RUBRA RUBRA
)
GONDLIN - CORAIL - SUNSET - BOREAL
It is creeping, more rustic than creeping fescue, it has less wathering
needs and is slightly more drought and heat resistant since it .
Seeding rate:
20-30 g/mq.
SLENDER
CREEPING RED FESCUE
(FESTUCA
RUBRA TRICHOPHYLLA)
SAMANTA
This subspecies is characterized by short rhizomes. It tolerates being
mowed sort and grows slowly.
Seeding rate:
20-30 g/mq.
|
|
|
FESTUCA
|

Highly interesting species,
especially for hot dry climates. It is extremely drought resistant and winter hardy. It is
fairly wear resistant. Its leaves are quite coarse but form a quite
bright green compact turf. However, varieties have recently been
selected with thiner leaves and denser foliage than forage varieties.
Emergence and radication are slow, so spring-summer weeds may impair
good root. However, once the lawn has been established it is
considerably weed-competitive. It vegetates well in almost any type of
soil. It is suitable for intense wear soccer or rugby fields in mixtures
also containing perennial ryegrass and Kentucky bluegrass.
Seeding rate: 30-50 g/mq.
|
TOMAHAWK
ELDORADO - MIRO
(Dark green)
FINELAWN - STARLETT
RENDITION - TITAN LTD
(Dark green)
|
|
|
Gramigna)
|

It is the most intense and aggressive lawn; its leaves are not
very thin but they are very wear tolerant. It has an enormous capacity
of restoring the lawn when it is considerably warm and shows empty
patches. It is quite hard to mow. This species has two disadvantages: very
slow growth and considerably long winter vegetation stop. In winter it
will stay brown for a longer or shorter time depending on temperature.
Unhulled bermuda grass seed shows the same characteristics as hulled
seed, with the advantage that unhulled seed will emerge from 12 to
15 days earlier, if temperature and humidity conditions are good. .
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
SAVANNAH
COMMERCIALE
|
|
|
AGROSTIDE CAPILLARIS
|

|
|
It is largely used when a very fine ,
slow growth lawn is needed with no special wear tolerance requirements.
In winter leaves become quite yellow. Felt level (build up of dead
vegetal waste) must be controlled since it may impair the growth of the
lawn. Consequently it is advisable to mow it short and to air it when
necessary.
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
HIGHLAND
|
|
|
AGROSTIDE
STOLONIFERA
|
It is the most prestigious lawn
species. In Golf courses it is used alone in "greens" and in mixture in
"tees". Thank to its creeping characteristic it is possible to mow it
very short (5-8 mm) using possibly coil blede. It needs aboundant
fertilization and high amounts of water.
pratensis. In miscuglio è preferibile associarla a festuca rubra fallax
o Poa pratensis. Le varietà si distinguono per colore del fogliame, per
resistenza alle malattie ecc.
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
PENNCROSS
KROMI
|
|
|
FESTUCA
OVINA
|

Rustic species , quite drought resistant, of a greish colour. It
is suitable for the turfing of sloping grounds and for establishing fine
lawns. It is generally used in mixtures.
Seeding rate: 20-30 g/mq.
|
RIDU
BORNITO
|
|
|
CYNOSURUS CRISTATUS
|
Very persistant, deep root apparatus,
good drought resistant species. Quite good for turfing of sloping
grounds.
Seeding rate: 15-20 g/mq.
|
POA TRIVIALIS
|
Suitable for excessively wet soils. It does not tolerate lack of
water. It is considerably shadow resistant.
Seeding rate: 25-35 g/mq.
|
DASAS
SABRENA
|
|
|
POA NEMORALIS
|
It is the most suitable species for
shady areas. It does not tolerate frequent mowing.
Seeding rate: 25-35 g/mq.
|
ENHARY
|
|
|
DICONDRA REPENS
|
It si a very thick lawn which does not need frequent mowing. It
is quite drought resistant and winter hardy. It is a very aggressive,
creeping, quite shadow tolerant species.
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
WHITE CLOVER
|
It forms a lawn whic is neither particularly thick nor
decorative. It does not need frequent mowing or much watering. It is
scarcely wear resistant. However, it has the advantage of forming a net
lawn which does not need much maintenance.
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
HUIA
|
|
|
LOTUS CORNICULATUS
|
This species is used for technical
lawns, in particular for turfing slopes and reclaiming green areas.
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
LEO
GIADA
|
|
|
TRIFOGLIO
BIANCO NANISSIMO
|
Smaller leaves than white clover. Also the vegetation development
time is very limited.
Seeding rate: 5-10 g/mq.
|
RIVENDEL
BARBIAN
|
|
|
